Vale Hans Lofgren
In CAPP News, Port Phillip CommunityVale Hans Lofgren
a message from the Community Alliance of Port Phillip (CAPP)
Sadly, we advise the sudden and unexpected passing of Hans Lofgren on Sunday 13 July in Chicago, where he was attending a conference.
Hans was a gentle, committed and compassionate comrade whose community and academic work was always thoughtful, and always motivated by the strongest social justice principles.
Hans taught politics and public policy at Deakin University and researched and wrote about Indian politics and the political economy of pharmaceuticals in Australia, India and globally. Hans was also a purposeful campaigner within his local community, working alongside others for the achievement of a progressive local Council and the defence of public libraries, community childcare and public education. He was active over many years in the campaigns of Turn the Tide in St Kilda and its later incarnation, the Community Alliance of Port Phillip.
Details of arrangements to acknowledge Hans are to be advised, do watch for those.
Meanwhile, CAPP extends heartfelt condolences to Rhonda, Hanna, Gregorio and Amalia, Kaj and Chloe, and Felix and Mandana, as well as to all his Swedish family.
Condolences can be sent to Rhonda Small:
